This section includes standard information on what each menu item in Space Monopoly does.

New Game

Starts a new game of Space Monopoly. See Getting Started for more information.

End Game

Ends a currently running game of Space Monopoly.  Your net wealth at the time you press this is calculated, and if it's a new high score it is added to the high score table as usual.

View High Scores

Displays the high score table for all three grid sizes.  Note that the high scores file is stored in a file called "scores", and if this could not be found a new "scores" file is created with all of the values reset.

Create New Grid

Randomly generates a new grid. If any company squares were present on the old grid these are removed.

Grid Size

Allows you to select a new grid size from the sub-menu.  Note that changing grid size changes the turns available in the game, and although you get a lot more turns on the large (28 by 24) grid, it's also a much harder grid to play on.

Options

Displays the game options dialogue:

The first tab of the dialogue ("General") allows you to change the currency unit used in the game.  This has no affect on gameplay.

The "Game" tab (shown above) allows for a few options which are specifically designed to make multiplayer games more fair.  The options that can be selected are as follows:

  1. Force Mergers - if a player has the option to merge two companies they must take it
  2. Force Expansion - if a player has the option to expand a company they must take it
    • Allow Company Creation - If force expansion is set, a player may create a new company instead of expanding an old one, assuming they can.
  3. Hide Player Details - hides the player details that are available by double clicking on their name in the listbox on the righthand toolbar during play.

It is definitely recommended you select at least "Force Expansion" and "Allow Company Creation" for multiplayer games, and "Force Merger" is also a recommendation if you don't want to end up falling out with your mate.

The options you set can be stored only for as long as Space monopoly is running by clicking "Okay", or can be stored on file by clicking "Save".
